This study used qualitative research as the design and Content Analysis as the approach. The researcher used interactional metaphor theory proposed by Max Black (1962) combined with cognitive metaphor suggested by Lakoff &Johnson (1980) to reveal the use of metaphorical expressions in Donald Trump’s Political speeches as well as to see how it affects audience to vote for him. The researcher selected three speeches such as campaign speech (2015), victory speech (2016) and inauguration speech (2017) as the object of study. These speeches are selected based on some considerations, such as lexical density, political concepts described by Trump, academic scrutiny and also to make this research more manageable. From the result of metaphorical analysis, the researcher found that Donald Trump frequently used ten dead metaphors, fifteen active metaphors, three compound metaphors, seven implicit metaphors and five submerged metaphors. Metaphor has played crucial part in persuading Americans to vote Trump as president. The objective of the metaphor is to show a resemblance between the object and subject. Or to put it in another way, metaphors are used in order to get the hearer to see the subject in “a different light”. Based on the analysis, the researcher concludes that metaphor has played crucial parts to evoke audience’s emotional state so they tend to believe and vote for Trump.
Wilma Prafitri, Muhammad Alim Akbar Nasir Copyright (c) 2022 Journal of Indigenous Culture https://jic.fib-unmul.id/index.php/jic/article/view/8 Mon, 26 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0100 PELANGGARAN PRINSIP KERJA SAMA DALAM FILM OUTSOURCED: SEBUAH ANALISIS PRAGMATIK LINTAS BUDAYA https://jic.fib-unmul.id/index.php/jic/article/view/9
Apart from being an entertainment medium, films also function as research objects because they reflect the prevailing culture in a particular society. This study aims to investigate the violations of the cooperative principle by American and Indian characters in the film Outsourced (2006) based on cross-cultural pragmatics perspective. Film dialogues that serve as research data were analyzed based on their violations of the cooperative principle by Grice (1975) to be compared and related to the background of the characters’ cultural values. The final result of this study's findings indicates that violations of the cooperative principles are motivated by the cultural values of each character. However, for the findings on the American character, there is also discrepancy between the attitudes of the character through speech with his cultural background, which is triggered by specific conditions. Therefore, it can be concluded that in this film the American character is more flexible than the Indian characters in implementing their culture through speech.
Sindy Alicia Gunawan, Saferi Yohana Copyright (c) 2022 Journal of Indigenous Culture https://jic.fib-unmul.id/index.php/jic/article/view/9 Mon, 26 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0100 DISKURSUS HUKUMAN MATI NARKOTIKA DALAM PRESPEKTIF MICHEL FOUCAULT https://jic.fib-unmul.id/index.php/jic/article/view/10
The death penalty is a form of punishment that still exists and is developing in Indonesia. The form of crime that dominates the death penalty is narcotics crime. The increase in narcotics crimes in Indonesia has had such a big impact that the government has designated this crime as an extraordinary crime. This article presents a discussion and analysis related to the phenomenon of the death penalty in narcotics cases in Indonesia, which until now still raises pros and cons so that discourse related to the effectiveness of the death penalty needs to be reviewed. This study uses a philosophical research model, namely a research model in the form of literature on actual problems. The data analysis in this research is explained through interpretation, heuristics, historical continuity, and comparison. In addition to the death penalty, imprisonment can be an alternative strategy for punishing narcotics crimes.
Anwar Ibrahim Triyoga, Chisa Belinda Harahap Copyright (c) 2022 Journal of Indigenous Culture https://jic.fib-unmul.id/index.php/jic/article/view/10 Mon, 26 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +0100 METAFORA DALAM SENI KARANG-KARANGAN DI KAMPUNG BEBANIR KABUPATEN BERAU KAJIAN: SEMANTIK KOGNITIF https://jic.fib-unmul.id/index.php/jic/article/view/6
Seni Karang-Karangan merupakan karya sastra berbentuk pantun berasal dari
Kampung Bebanir Kabupaten Berau.
